Beth Malae-Toelupe

Bethany Malae-Toelupehas been with the Helping Babies Hear Newborn HearingScreening Program also known as EHDI (Early Hearing Detection & Intervention) since2011. She worked as Program Manager from 2011 until 2019 where she then moved to serve as the new Helping Babies Hear/EHDI Program Coordinator under the American Samoa Department of Health. Bethany is married and has 7 children. Her youngest are twins. Bethany graduated with her MPA in 2004 and her BA in 2001 from Golden Gate University and BrighamYoung University-Provo, UT.

Carol Jean Nesi 

Carol Jean Nesi is a Certified Nurse Assistant who graduated from American Samoa Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Pre-Law. She joined the Helping Babies Hear team as a Newborn Hearing Screenerin September 2021. She pursued nursing because of her passion to help and make a difference in her community. She adores working with infants and toddlers

Lisa Jeon-Maga

Lisa is the Program Manager for helping Babies Hear. She oversees theoperations and ensures allservices are delivered according to program regulations. She works closely withNewborn HearingScreeners and Audiologists. She was working as a ProgramManager for Helping Hands EarlyIntervention Part C for 8 years before joining Helping Babies Hear in 2020.Lisaproudlyresides inVatia with her husband and two beautiful children. She holds a Bachelor’s in Aviation Administration minor in business from San Jose State University. Go Spartans!

Newborn Hearing Screener

Merlin Tuiletufuga

Merlin Ve’e-Tuiletufuga is a Newborn Hearing Screener for Helping Babies Hear Program. She plays a significant role in conducting newborn hearing screenings for all infants born at the LBJ-TMC local hospital including referrals, outpatient services and parent education.

Merlin is an honor student currently pursuing a BS degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix and is expected to graduate in 2022. Merlin is married and has two daughters who continue to inspire her to be a role model. She is compassionate, optimistic, enjoys physical activities, and loves spending time with her family.
